Montuno sadly announces the passing of one of Cuba

With his unique style of guitar playing, this innovative and creative musician help to shape Cuban music, from joining Los Zafiros in the 1960s, to leading the national music ensemble from 1972 to 1975 and later forming his own group Batey, where he remained for 23 years. After working with the Vieja Trova Santiaguera for two years, he was asked to play on Ibrahim Ferrer's first solo album where he met the American guitarist Ry Cooder. The pair recorded the GRAMMY® Award winning album, Mambo Sinuendo.

For more than a decade, Galbán toured with the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club®, and he had recently finished recording his latest album, Bluchacha.

He will be missed by many.
