The Newport Jazz Festival opens its doors tomorrow at the Fort Adam's State Park, RI. This year, Esperanza Spalding and Friends will perform twice at the festival, on Sat 6th and Sun 7th Aug.
For the Saturday show, she will be accompanied by her friend Anat Cohen, drummer Justin Brown, and from her touring band, Leo Genovese on piano and Sara Caswell on the violin. For Sunday's show, the group will be Ambrose Akinmusire on trumpet, Uri Cane on piano, her close friend Terri Lynne Carrington on drums, Aaron Burnette on saxophone and Shalini Ramaswamy on vocals.
The festival's director, George Wein, said in a recent interview that it is great having Esperanza playing once again at the festival. "It's marvelous," Wein said of Spalding headlining. "She's a very talented young lady. To me, when you get to know them the way I do, playing with them, working with them, it's great to see the world recognize them and say
