Buena Vista Social Club® & Omara Portuondo in Cuba

After years without singing together in Cuba, Omara Portuondo and the emblematic figures of Buena Vista Social ClubTM staged a concert at the National Art School in La Havana (Cuba) on January 5th to an audience of young students, some of whom shared the stage with them.
The legendary band founded in 1996 and Grammy® winner in 1997 with the album "Buena Vista Social Club" joined legendary Cuban artists as Ibrahim Ferrer, "Compay Segundo", Rubén González and Omara Portuondo, and spread all over the world the Traditional Cuban World Music.
Omara Portuondo, who recently won a Latin Grammy® with her solo album "Gracias", explained that the rhythms and songs made famous by Buena Vista Social ClubTMare still popular nowadays since they are the basis of Cuban Culture.
Students shared the stage with great musicians like Manuel Galbán or "Guajiro" Mirabal, who considered "very important" the creation the National Art School has just created a chair of Cuban popular music.
