Last week Cuba Disco announced their nominees for this year edition. More than 150 musical productions have been nominated in various categories. Roberto Fonseca recieved four nominations for his latest relase Yo, in the category of design, jazz, fusion, and recording. Manuel Galban’s latest relase Blue Cha Cha has also recieved 3 nominations in the category of design, documentary and instrumental vocal music. Roberto Fonseca will be performing at the Paris Jazz Festival 2013. He displays great respect for the tradition, Fonseca wants to get ahead and open new doors for the Cuban heritage as he fuses Latin jazz, urban sounds and African rhythms with the sounds of his native island.Check full programme here.
Jazz in Marciac, celebrates its 35 year history as one or the premier performances spaces on the planet. As in years past festival organizers have established an amazing line up of talent including: Wayne Shorter, Diana Krall, Ahmad Jamal, George Benson, Paco de Lucia, Roberto Fonseca and Wynton Marsalis. Jack DeJohnette continues touring with Keith Jarret and Gary Peacock. This time for a short tour in Asia with 6 shows confirmed in Japan and Seoul. The first stop will be at the Orchard Hall in Tokyo the 6th and the 9th. On the 12th the band will travel to Osaka to play at the Osaka Festival Hall to come back on the 15th to the Orchard Hall in Tokyo. The last stop is at the Sejong Center in Seoul on the 19th.More info here.
Melody Gardot, Roberto Fonseca and Marcus Miller are the featured artists of the new edition of Barcelonnette Jazz Festival (France). The festival takes place July 26th and 27th in Sapinière. A new edition is that adults may participate in a five-day workshop as part of the festival. more here.
On April 22nd, GRAMMY U participated in a refreshing sound check followed by a Q&A session with jazz bassist, singer and GRAMMY Award winner, Esperanza Spalding at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. This event allowed GRAMMY U students to see the technical set-up of the instruments and then enjoy the sweet sound of Esperanza’s vocal warm-ups and bass riffs paired with a seven-piece horn section before being escorted to the Q&A.
