The only thing that Jack DeJohnette seems to have forgotten in his maturing years, is that, by the law of nature, he is supposed to be slowing down. Instead, as the composer/multi-instrumentalist heads toward his mid-seventies, he is as productive as he has ever been in his long, celebrated career. Return is not DeJohnette’s first piano album. He played piano and synthesizer on The Jack DeJohnette Piano Album (Landmark, 1985) leaving the drumming in the hands of Freddie Waits. He also played piano on two tracks on In Movement but in the intervening thirty years, the keyboard was used infrequently on recordings, primarily being DeJohnette’s composing device. Married for more than 25 years, Amadou and Mariam met in the orchestra of “The Institute for the Young Blind” in Bamako. Since then, their magical fusion of pop, blues and Malian music has won them fans and stellar collaborators around the world. In recent years, Amadou and Mariam have toured with Coldplay and U2 and jammed with musical heroes David Gilmour and Johnny Marr. They will be touring this summer in Europe, June 24th they will be at the Wroclove de Polonia, July 8th in Thiers (Francia), July 15th in Brechidda (Italia) and July 27th in Sant Anne d’Auray (Francia).

Anyone who has had the pleasure of listening to Anthony Strong’s extraordinary version of Cheek to Cheek will have an idea of what they will find on his latest album. According to Strong himself, he took old school jazz standards and swing classics and interpreted them in his own way, completely shamelessly, passing them through the filter of early Stevie Wonder and the legendary discography of Tamla Motown, the sound of black American music. Anthony Strong will be performing in Madrid next July 17th at II INGENIA JAZZ&WINE Festival, and in Barcelona, at the Festival Grec. It will be next July 22nd at Sala Apolo.
